Quick Prelude

Well, here I am trying to discover “The Art of Cooking”. I would be sharing with all my viewers “My Lessons” & “Discoveries” as well.

My lessons in cooking have been and will be forever from my Mother- in – law who is the smartest and the most health-conscious cook that I have ever seen. While the world rambles about creating a “Yummy Tummy”; she helps us have a “Healthy Tummy” always.

My Amma, Granny, Athais, Periyammas & relatives have always motivated me to learn faster by their mouth-watering authentic kongu style delicacies.

My Appa & Bro - Laboratory testing generally was done on them :) ! But their motivating means so much to me.

"Cooking is an art and patience a virtue... Careful shopping, fresh ingredients and an unhurried approach are nearly all you need. There is one more thing - love. Love for food and love for those you invite to your table. With a combination of these things you can be an artist ” - Keith Floyd

A last important word!

My hubby, the best food critic & my cooking fan too.
My hubby, my strength! And good food is his strength!!

Kozhukattai

POORANAM KOZHUKATTAI

There are different varieties in this dish that is claimed to be Lord Ganesha’s favorite. However, since I have no blender, here is a simple one. Also, quite easy too for beginners to start with as I am one myself :-)

Preparation Time – 15 Mins
Serves - 2
Ingredients:

Rice flour – 200 gms
Jaggery (Vellam) – 1 cup
Coconut Grating – 2 cups
Cardamom – 2 No.s
A pinch of salt
Saffron – A few strands (Optional)

Method:
1. Put the rice flour in a kadai a fry in sim for about minutes till a good rice aroma comes out
2. To this add 2 cups of boiling water with a pinch of salt
3. Mix with your hands and make dough. Take out small lemon balls and keep aside. Refer image below.
4. Meanwhile put jaggery in a vessel add 150 ml of water. Keep stirring till the jaggery melts. Once the jaggery completely melts add the grated coconut and cardamom powder. This will be a semi dry mixture. This is called pooranam.
5. Using your thumb slightly press the ball in the middle and keep the pooranam in the middle. Refer image here.
6. Bring all the edges and make it a semi circular finish. You may also use a mould to make the same. Refer image.
7. Arrange all of these in a ghee greased idli plate. I sprinkled a little saffron to make it look colorful.
8. Steam this in a idli maker for 10 mins. Your Pooranam Kozhukattai is ready !
